our roots

Hummingbird Bouquets is a small subscription and special occasion flower business located in West Seattle, Washington. We offer seasonal arrangements made with our own Vashon Island and West Seattle grown flowers and flowers sourced from local Pacific Northwest farmers (and in the winter months from a few farms in California who are part of the cooperative) through the Seattle Wholesale Growers Market .

We use compostable materials (including natural flower foam) and our vases are primarily recycled. If you have an arrangement vase I will happily pick up any vase you don't want to keep and reuse it.

You can expect a lovely arrangement that will be tailored to the available flowers for that month prepared with as little environmental impact as possible.

Cheryl Swab, Owner, Hummingbird Bouquets - 2023

I love flowers. I love outdoor gardening and indoor plants! Gardening and flowers feed the soul and provide so much beauty.

I’ve been in business for three years now and I’ve learned so much. I’ve adjusted my business model a bit - adding some services (holiday wreaths!) and discontinuing others (delivery of the market bouquets). I found that I do love weddings - although, just a few a year. I have a new greenhouse and Slippery Slope Flower Farm has one too so we’re very excited to grow more and more of our own flowers.

My wonderful, very supportive family and friends have cheered me on as I make my way as a small business owner and a creative!

This is my wonderful husband, Wayne. He loves all my bouquets :) and also drives me around to deliver flowers. He keeps saying that he charges $50 an hour but we both know, he will never get paid…

Other important members of this effort: my daughter-in-law, Cecilia, who designed my logo, website, and business cards - she’s very talented and all around wonderful. Also, my sons, Nic and Tim, who have always supported my dream of being a florist. Tim is also my social media manager and writes a good deal of my instagram and blog posts and edits the website and other marketing materials. Tim and Sarah of Slippery Slope Farm and also 30+ years of friendship; Taylor (my son Tim’s girlfriend) who’s so helpful and supportive and now a blogger and a holiday wreath maker. It takes a village!
